Appreciation For Our Veterans and Military Families
November was National Veterans and Military Families Month, and Brighton Marine was able to give support to our valued Veterans and Military Families in a variety of ways.
Partnering with Brighton Elks, Soldier On, and East Boston Jr ROTC, Brighton Marine participated in the Boston Veterans Day March on Nov. 4 for the first time.
We give special thanks to Saint Columbkille Partnership School for holding the annual Veterans Celebration on Nov. 8. The donations from students will support our programs and services that help our Veteran residents.
On Nov. 9 Veronica Smith Senior Center honored senior Veterans in the Allston-Brighton neighborhood. Winship Elementary School students attended along with the USS Constitution Honor Guard. Brighton Marine Veteran residents really enjoyed the patriotic event that paid tribute to all who served in the Armed Services.
Brighton Marine was proud to be invited to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Veterans Services’ Annual Veterans Day Celebration on Nov. 10. The ceremony took place at Faneuil Hall in Boston. Governor Maura Healey, Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll and Secretary of Veterans' Services Jon Santiago awarded Sarah Sweeney, executive director of the Military Friends Foundation, with the Captain Thomas Hudner Jr. Valor Award.
All of the Massachusetts Veterans Services Officers were awarded the Captain Thomas Kelly Community Engagement Award. In addition, the governor unveiled a new legislative package that would expand benefits, modernize services and promote inclusivity for the Commonwealth’s Veterans.
On Nov. 22 the Boston Bruins donated Thanksgiving pies to our Veterans Housing residents for the second consecutive year. We thank the Boston Bruins and wish them the best this holiday season, on and off the ice!
We thank all of these great organizations for their support and donations that provided packaged winter coats and hygiene items on Nov. 24 for Veterans: Massachusetts Military Support Foundation Inc., Ocean State Job Lot, Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association, New England Patriots Charitable Foundation and The Home Depot. We especially thank State Rep. Kevin G. Honan for making the connection so our Veterans could receive the gifts.
